Examples of the Telephone Display
Displayed immediately after power is applied to your telephone.
Displayed for a few seconds as your telephone initializes itself.
Displayed briefly to give you an opportunity to cancel the initialization process.
Your telephone is in service and ready to use. You may now place and answer calls and access your telephone via its website.
Same as above except that your user id is also displayed when your telephone is registered with a server.
When you press MENU/BACK while your telephone is idle, your name and your telephone's network address, serial number, and version are displayed for a few seconds. This is also the display from which you upgrade your telephone (the UPGRD softkey), review call logs (the LOGS softkey), read and write IMs (the IM softkey), and configure your telephone (the SETUP softkey).
The same as the Ready display, above, except you have received
messages or missed calls.
You can clear the "New Msgs" text by pressing MENU/BACK.
You can clear the "Missed" text by pressing MENU/BACK and then the LOGS and MISS softkeys.
The same as the Ready display, above, except that all incoming calls are automatically
forwarded to the number you specified. Even though incoming
calls are forwarded, you may continue to place calls.
Displayed when you have specified a number to which to forward incoming calls when your telephone is busy.
This message is displayed when you have specified a number to which to forward incoming calls when you do not answer within an amount of time that you previously specified.
The same as the Ready display, above, except your telephone does not accept
incoming calls. You may enable and disable this feature by pressing the DND softkey.
To a caller, your telephone appears busy. Even though incoming calls are rejected, you
may continue to place calls.
Your telephone is in service and ready to use; however, it cannot contact a time server to determine what time it is. Two possible causes:

This is displayed when you start entering a telephone number while your telephone is offhook. If you have a dial plan configured on your telephone, the call is placed when your telephone recognizes a telephone number that matches the dial plan. Otherwise, press the DIAL softkey or DIAL/REDIAL after entering the telephone number to place the call. Note that, in order to place a call with a telephone number (rather than, for example, with a SIP URI by way of the URI softkey), you must have previously specified a SIP proxy or registrar through your telephone's menu or on the servers page of its website (see the sections, Website and Menu). Pressing MENU/BACK before you place the call clears the telephone number, allowing you to enter it again. The DEL softkey acts as a backspace key, removing the right-most digit.
Pressing DIAL/REDIAL displays your most recent outgoing calls (pressing DIAL/REDIAL twice retries the most recent outgoing call). Scroll through the list by pressing the ^ and v softkeys. Press the DIAL softkey or DIAL/REDIAL to place a call to the selected entry/p>
This is displayed when you press any MEM1-5 key. From here, pressing a MEM1-5 key places a call to the corresponding entry.
Pressing the BOOK softkey gives you access to the phonebook. The selected entry here is for someone in the phonebook with the nickname, "jdoe." At this point, you may
This is displayed by pressing the URI softkey. You may then enter a SIP URI to call.
This is displayed while waiting for the other party to answer.
During a call, the user name provided by the remote end is displayed. In this example, the name is "John Doe." If the user name is not available, the other party is identified by nickname, domain name, or the network address of his or her telephone. This is for a single call. For a conference call, the other parties are displayed on separate lines. From this display, you may
The Mute in the lower-left-hand corner of the LCD indicates that your microphone
is muted. Mute is turned on and off while in a call with the MUTE softkey.
The caller's name is displayed when there is an incoming call. This is the Caller ID (CID) feature. If the name is not available, the other party is identified by nickname, domain name, or the network address of his or her telephone.
This is displayed when you adjust the ringer volume with the VOLUME keys while your telephone is idle. The bar graph indicates the resulting volume setting.
This is displayed when you adjust the speaker volume with the VOLUME keys while your telephone is in speakerphone mode. The bar graph indicates the resulting volume setting.
This is displayed when you adjust the handset volume with the VOLUME keys while the handset is offhook and your telephone is not in speakerphone mode. The bar graph indicates the resulting volume setting.
This message is displayed very briefly when you first put a call on hold.
This indicates that you have placed the call on hold by pressing the HOLD softkey. Pressing the RTRV softkey takes the call off of hold.
This message is displayed very briefly when you first retrieve a held call.
The On hold with: indicates that you have a call
on hold along with the name of the person on hold.
Pressing CALL 1/2 switches to the held call and puts the current call on hold.
Pressing the HOLD softkey puts the current call on hold so that both calls are on hold.
If both calls are on hold when you press CALL 1/2, the second call in the display is taken off of hold.
This is displayed on the LCD in case of call-transfer failure.
Message displayed when the called party is not reachable because
Message displayed when the called party is busy.
Message displayed when the call has been forwarded five times (this may indicate a telephone forwarding to itself in an infinite loop).
Message displayed when the remote end declines the call.
This is displayed when a payment is required to complete the call.
This is displayed when the call cannot be put through.
Displayed when the called party cannot be found.
Displayed when you enter an address that is incomplete or not understood.
This is displayed when the remote end does not accept the media that your telephone can send.
This is displayed if the called party did not answer.
This is displayed after the other party terminates the call.
This message is displayed briefly when the name for which you searched the phonebook cannot be found.
This message is displayed when the phonebook is empty.
Error message that is displayed when you attempt to add an entry to the phonebook with the same nickname as one already in the phonebook.
Error message that is displayed when you attempt to add an entry to the phonebook with a space in the nickname.
Error message that is displayed when you attempt to add an entry to the phonebook with a space in the address.
Error message that is displayed when you attempt to add an entry to the phonebook with a SIP URI that is longer than 255 characters.
Error message that is displayed when you attempt to add an entry to the phonebook with an invalid network address.
Error message that is displayed when your telephone is not configured to use a registrar and you attempt to add an entry to the phonebook without a domain name as part of the address. For example, you enter csmith instead of csmith@example.com.
Message that is displayed when you transfer a call.
Message that is displayed on other party's telephone when your transfer their call to a third party.
Message that is displayed when your telephone is doing DNS queries after you place a call.
This message is sometimes displayed as your telephone establishes an outgoing call.
This is displayed when the remote party places you on hold.
The Headset in the lower-right-hand corner of the LCD
indicates that your telephone's headset jack is selected for audio.
When the headset jack is enabled (see the section, Website),
you can press SPEAKER/HEADSET to select between the handset, base unit,
and headset.
This message is displayed when you dial an invalid, unparsible address.
This is displayed when your telephone receives an IM, indicating the total number of unread messages.
Message displayed briefly when you send an IM.
This message is briefly displayed after you save some configuration settings.
Message displayed when dialing fails that is user-dialed invalid destination number.
This message is displayed to remind you that there is a call on hold when you hang up
This message is displayed when a call has been forwarded.
This is displayed if you press a key on your telephone while it is doing DNS queries to resolve a host name. You should then investigate the network configuration of your telephone.
This is displayed when an alarm triggers. Press the STOP softkey to cancel the alarm or any other key to temporarily suspend the alarm.
This is displayed when a reminder triggers. Press the STOP softkey to cancel the reminder.
SPEAKER/HEADSET Indicator This indicator (a red light) glows continuously when your telephone is in speakerphone mode or an alarm or reminder has triggered, and blinks when there is a new, unread voicemail.
